How to Edit your Simple Syllabus in Canvas
Log into Canvas via Access UH and select the course you wish to work on from your Canvas dashboard.
To enable 'Simple Syllabus' in your course navigation, go to Course Settings > Navigation tab. Drag and drop 'Simple Syllabus' to the top or click the three dots and select 'Enable' [1]. Don't forget to 'Save' when finished [2].
Next go to your Course Navigation and select Simple Syllabus [3].
Under General Course Information click the pencil button to enter Department and Office Hours [4].
Please note that if a 'required component' is not filled out in its entirety you will not be able to publish your syllabus.
You can highlight text to edit styling and add links. [5]
Click the save button to save the instructor information [6].
Use the text boxes to edit the preexisting components [7].
Note some components are added by the University and can’t be edited or removed [8].
Some optional components can be hidden by clicking the visibility toggle button [9].
If you need to add a new section (component), use the Add button in the left navigation or the Add new component button at the bottom of the syllabus.
Use the reorder button to change the order of components on the syllabus.
Use the Reset button to revert certain components or all components of the syllabus back to the original state.
Changes are automatically saved.
The Submit button will only turn red when all required components have been filled out in their entirety.
Click the Submit button if you want to publish the syllabus. Click Close if you want to publish the syllabus later. Once published, you can still edit as needed.
